A typical package bundles a set number of nights and rounds — three nights, three rounds is the classic — often with extras like breakfast, guaranteed tee times, and sometimes transfers or a buggy. The appeal is obvious: one booking, one price, no juggling tee sheets across four different websites.
Where Packages Genuinely Win
Packages earn their keep in three situations. First, resort destinations: at places built around golf — the Algarve, Belek, Myrtle Beach, Scottsdale — resorts price packages aggressively because they want your dinner and bar spend too. The bundled price often beats the sum of parts by 15 to 25 percent.
Second, guaranteed access: some resort courses reserve their best tee times for package guests. At busy destinations in high season, the package is sometimes the only realistic way onto the course you actually came for.
Third, groups: organising eight golfers across three courses is genuinely hard work. A package turns forty emails into one, and group discounts stack on top.
Where Packages Quietly Lose
Packages are weakest when you did not want half of what is bundled. Common traps: rounds on the resort’s weakest course padded into the deal, accommodation grades that cost less separately, non-refundable terms hiding behind the headline price, and single-occupancy supplements that wreck the per-person maths for smaller groups.
Also check the tee times themselves — some packages guarantee golf but not when. A 2:40pm shotgun in July is not the same product as an 8:30am start.

Take the package price and rebuild it yourself: the same room on a booking site, the same rounds at direct green fee rates, the same transfers. Ten minutes of arithmetic reveals whether the bundle saves real money or just saves clicking. While you are at it, check what is missing: buggies, range balls, resort fees and taxes are the usual gaps between the advertised and the actual price.
Questions to Ask Before Booking
Which courses exactly, and how many rounds on each? Are tee times pre-booked and confirmed in writing? What happens if weather cancels a round — refund, voucher or nothing? Is the rate per person based on two sharing? What deposit locks the price, and when is the balance due? Reputable operators answer all of these without flinching.
